Stay home, and stay healthy! There are a few things you can do at home to take care of yourself so that you can avoid getting sick. Here are some tips how:
Be as active as possible.
Regular physical activity benefits both the body and mind. Just taking a short break from sitting, by doing 3-4 minutes of light intensity physical movement, such as walking or stretching, will help ease your muscles and improve blood circulation and muscle activity.
Eat a healthy diet.
Eating a healthy diet is very important during the COVID-19 pandemic. What we eat and drink can affect our body’s ability to prevent, fight and recover from infections. Eat a variety of food, including fruits and vegetables. This also includes drinking a lot of water!
Quit smoking.
Smokers have a higher risk of getting coronavirus because they are constantly putting their hands to their lips. There are many resources online to help you with this.
Look after your mental health.
Adapting to lifestyle changes such as these, and managing the fear of contracting the virus and worry about people close to us who are particularly vulnerable, are challenging for all of us. Good thing there are lots of things that we can do to look after our own mental health, such meditation, staying in touch with friends & family members online, or even minimizing social media use.
Limit or avoid alcohol intake.
Avoid using alcohol as a way of dealing with fear, anxiety, boredom and social isolation. There is no evidence of any protective effect of drinking alcohol for viral or other infections. In fact, the opposite is true as the harmful use of alcohol is associated with increased risk of infections and worse treatment outcomes.
As we all know, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Let's take these simple steps to stay healthy while at home. And don't forget to wash your hands!
