The healing power of breathing

“For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth.” –Sanskrit proverb

Many may forget that breathing is the most important activity we do every single day. The way we breathe tremendously impacts our wellness especially when we find ourselves in challenging situations wherein we're told to “take a deep breath.”

To properly fuel the body with oxygen, increase optimism, relax the body, improve sleep, help the mind focus for mental clarity, digest food efficiently and strengthen the ability to regulate emotions, foster the self-healing powers of your body by practicing the Deep Breathing Technique:

  1. Sit erect or stand up straight and relax your abdominal muscles.
  2. Slowly inhale through your nose and breath in slowly and deeply by filling the lower portion of your lungs first and then fill the upper lungs. 
  3. Retain your breath for a few seconds.
  4. Exhale slowly through your nose and push all of the air out of your lungs. 
  5. Repeat the exercise. 

You may notice that if you practice the exercise for 5 minutes daily, your body will begin to calm and discover that you have more energy. So just simply breathe, and take the power back in your life.
